Winter
I had to take out some large conifers fron the middle border recently as they were taking too much light and obstructing the view down the garden. This has taken some of the structure from the garden in winter but the conifers and evergreens in the side borders still give a good display during winter. The winter flowering heathers in the large raised bed give plenty of colour in the winter months. The evergreen shrub reflecting the light on the right of the right hand picture is Eleagnus pungens "Maculata"

The patio area shown in the picture below has been planted with a selection of alpine plants and covered with gravel. This helps to keep the weeds down and reflects and enhances the available the light in winter. The tree reflecting the sunlight in the centre of the picture below and in the left hand picture above is a golden yew.
